Rocco's Bizarre Adventure

Rocco is a poor Italian boy who has been living in his uncle's basement for as long as he can remember. But one fateful morning, a ferryman grants Rocco and his brother Fransisco an opportunity to get away from Italy and start a new life in America. With high expectations, they accept the ferryman's offer and embark on a journey to New York, the City of Dreams, in hope of a better life.

Rocco's Bizarre Adventure is an adventure storygame based on a real story about a boy called Rocco Corresca, who immigrated to America and achieved his American Dream ("Rocco Corresca: The Life Story of an Italian Bootblack", Italy; 1906). The game is a creative spin on the story of Rocco Corresca, his financial problems, and how he is treated unethically as he makes his way to America. No matter how Rocco is treated, he always keeps his moral compass upright. Make your way though the interactive and entertaining story about the difficulties of being an immigrant, and complete the many tasks that are set upon Rocco's shoulders.

it is a good game, there is good directions, but the minigame with the coal is really long, and many times you try to run to get a piece of coal but the coal despawns really fast, and you have the npc in the room with you but he does not do anything it is a little weird but yea great game

The coal's quick despawn time was an attempt to make the minigame feel more stressful without adding a time limit, however they might be too fast. Having Fransisco in the room was meant to add more annoyance, so I hope that has been achieved xD. Thank you for the feedback!

Very good although a small visual glitch is when you re enter a room the coins and people will flash to their original spot for a single frame. Also it is hard to know how many coins you have so a coin counter would be nice. After you get on the ship the brother can block you or make you stuck for a little. Overall the story is very pleasing you have some points where you go back to the start for example you need a crowbar to open it and later you find it and get rewarded for doing so. You also get rewarded for not running through the game and instead talk to the non player characters. Also when the 2 racists on the dock talk to you they don't have any eyes which is unsettling but other than those minor problems it is a very good game

9/10

Thanks for the feedback! The coin flashing is due to GB Studio limitations, so there's not much to do about that unfortunately. If you look at the controls part of this page, you'll se that you can press 'Start' (or 'enter' on keyboard) to open up an inventory that shows you how many coins you have collected and how much coal you have in your inventory. Being able to get stuck in Fransisco was a conscious decision that makes the minigame slightly more annoying, however it might be too unrealistic, so I will look into that. The two racists' eyebrows merge with their eyes due to color limitations. And I agree that it makes them look a bit unsettling xD. Thank you for all the support and critisism, it is very helpful for the game's development!

the furnace part was a bit too long. also its hard to tell how many coins youve collected. other than that its great

I might shorten the length of the ship minigame. If you look at the controls part of this page, you'll se that you can press 'Start' (or 'enter' on keyboard) to open up an inventory that shows you how many coins you have collected and how much coal you have in your inventory.

Godt spil. God grafik helt perfekt visuelt. Dog er kul spillet MEGET time comsuming, det bliver man lettere træt af med de dårlige janky controls fra GB studio. Måske sæt et "docks" skilt op et sted der viser, hvordan man kommer hen til docksne. Ellers godt :

Også god forside

Thanks for the feedback. I will add some clarification on how to get to the docks and how to get back to the streets. Yeah, the coal minigame is pretty time consuming, so I will try to add some variation so it's more entertaining and replayable.

I don't like getting stuck in big brother

Me neither buddy xD

Godt spil, god grafik. Skibsdelen føles langtrukket. Der er ikke særligt mange scener, men alligevel ville det være nice med noge til at gøre det tydeligere hvilke veje der tager en til en ny scene, og hvor det bare er en border.

Thanks for the feedback, I will probably look into adding some clarification for which way to go. The ship section was an attempt to make a 'stressful' minigame without having to worry about a time limit. I might make variations to it to make it more interesting.

jeg starter med z ikke a?

As you can see in the controls section of this page, you emulate clicking 'A' by pressing the 'Z' key on your keyboard. I might make it so any key starts the game instead of just 'A'.

really good, just has a few bugs in the end minigam

I hit many difficulties with that minigame such as too many On Update scripts and too many sprites. Hopefully it's not completely unplayable.

It was just very finnicky, and hard to play, but it still functioned (sort of.)

Thank you for the feedback, I will try to improve the ship minigame and make it more replayable.
